Find a Mentor

Mentors help students make connections and prepare for their future career. UNC Charlotte is partnering with Mentor Collective to offer incoming first year students a peer mentor based on interests, area of study, needs, and preferences.

Use the registration link below to sign up, complete a short survey about yourself and your background, and you will be matched with a mentor, a fellow UNC Charlotte student.

Residency Classifications

Residency is determined through the North Carolina Residency Determination Service (RDS). Students need only contact RDS if they are seeking to be designated as a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes, otherwise their status defaults to Non-Resident.

Resident

A person who has established legal residence (domicile) in North Carolina and maintained that legal residence for at least 12 months (365 days) immediately prior to his or her classification as a resident for in-state tuition and state financial aid eligibility purposes.

Out of NC Non-Resident

To automatically qualify for the Out of NC Non-Resident Tuition Rate all three of the following must be true and verifiable in the UNC Charlotte student information system. The review of eligibility for this tuition rate is conducted for each semester of a student’s enrollment.

  • Are determined to be a non resident of NC for tuition purposes by the North Carolina Residency Determination Service (RDS)
  • Are admitted to and exclusively enrolled in an approved 100% online program
  • Live outside of North Carolina

Appeal Information

  • Residency status is determined solely by the North Carolina Residency Determination Services (RDS) Office. All requests for residency reconsideration must be submitted to RDS.
  • Students must be admitted to and exclusively enrolled in courses that are part of an approved 100% online program.
  • Determination of where a student resides is initially done using location information submitted by the student and contained in the University’s student information system. The Out of NC Non-Resident tuition appeal process is designed for students who believe their automatic assessment of eligibility for this tuition rate is incorrect.
  • Appeals for current semester tuition and fees must be submitted by 5PM on the posted census date. The census date is posted on the official Academic calendar.
