Our Urban Education M.Ed. program is ideal for education professionals committed to delivering high-quality, culturally relevant and sustaining instruction. We help you develop skills to meet the needs of students in increasingly diverse, urban school systems.

We also provide you with practical tools and resources to increase your multicultural competence and awareness. You will learn how to become empowered to close opportunity gaps, dismantle harmful pipelines and cultivate inclusive learning environments.

A flexible degree program for all

Choose to pursue your Master of Education degree full time or part time. There are no special prerequisites, and no teaching certificate is required to enter our program.

Admissions

Priority Application Deadline:

  • February 1 (Early Admission deadline to be eligible for scholarships)
  • May 1 (Summer Admission)
    Students who apply by May 1st should choose summer for their admission semester, as they may take EDUC 6101 in Summer I.

Application Deadline: 

  • August 1 (Fall Admission)
    Anyone applying after May 1st should choose fall as their admission semester.

Admissions & Requirements: 

A statement of purpose indicating reasons for seeking the M.Ed. in Urban Education.

Complete the Graduate School Admission Application.

A bachelor’s degree from a university accredited by a US Department of Education-recognized institutional accreditor.

Copies of unofficial transcripts from all academic coursework beyond high school.

Three recommendations from those knowledgeable of the candidate’s interaction with children or youth. Applicants will provide reference contact names and email addresses through the application portal.

Our faculty members bring their expertise and insights into the online classroom to ensure you receive a highly relevant and up-to-date education.

Earn your degree in just two years (five semesters). By pursuing your Master of Education degree studies full time, you will average two courses per semester and complete the program in two years (including one full summer term).

Earn more than one degree. As a part of your coursework, you’ll be completing four courses which are our Graduate Certificate in Anti-Racism. With one additional application, you can officially earn both a Masters Degree and Graduate Certificate at the same time.

Experience our M.Ed. program online individually, but also as a team. Our Master of Education program is designed as a cohort model that admits students as a group, beginning each fall semester. You will be able to discuss classes and assignments with a group of students you’ll come to know and respect.
