3rd Charlotte Symposium on Online Learning

Strengthening Systems, Supporting Faculty, Serving Students: Join faculty, staff, advisors, and academic leaders for the 3rd Charlotte Symposium on Online Learning. This interactive event features plenary and breakout sessions with facilitators from across campus, offering practical strategies to support student success, faculty development, and operational readiness. Attendees will collaborate on solutions, share best practices, and explore systems and processes that strengthen online learning and the evolving needs of working learners at UNC Charlotte.

Please note that registration for the event is limited to UNC Charlotte Faculty and Staff.

Hear directly from online students, alongside advising and transfer student experts, as they share insights into the realities, challenges, and opportunities shaping today’s online learner experience.

Building a Blueprint: Campus Policy, Resource, and Infrastructure Needs
A town hall–style discussion on the institutional structures required for high-quality online learning. Participants will identify gaps and contribute to a campus-wide blueprint for strengthening online learning systems.

Engaging the Asynchronous Learner Through Course Design
A demonstration-based session highlighting course design strategies and instructional approaches that boost engagement and motivation in asynchronous courses.

Academic Integrity Online in an AI Era
This session explores integrity frameworks, tools, and instructional approaches for teaching and learning in an AI-enhanced educational environment.

Q&A Forum: Launching an Online Program
A brief overview of online program processes followed by an open Q&A—ideal for units exploring new or expanded online offerings.

Understanding the Online Learner: Andragogy, Motivations, and Learner Profiles
Grounded in adult learning theory, this session examines UNC Charlotte’s online learner profiles and offers strategies for designing responsive, learner-centered instruction for working adults and nontraditional learners.


Lightning Talks (5–15 minutes)

A fast-paced series of short, practical presentations featuring strategies, tools, innovations, and lessons learned across online teaching, learning, and program support.

Call for Proposals

We welcome proposals for both 40-minute concurrent sessions and 5–15 minute lightning sessions. The deadline to submit is December 23.


Onboarding for Undergraduate Students

Please join us virtually for your Charlotte Online Onboarding to prepare for your online undergraduate program.

We will cover a host of important topics that will prepare you for day 1 and beyond. Some of the items that will be covered are:

  • Canvas Demo (accessing your class on day 1)
  • Connecting with your advisor
  • Discussion with the online librarian
  • Important dates and resources to bookmark
  • Sign up for a student mentor 
  • Virtual community platform demo
  • Meet and interact with other online undergraduate students
